Great story. I can totally relate to the law of averages. My stats are very close to yours and like you, I kept thinking, 'why wouldn't you want to hire me? I'd hire me!'

I have a question though. Big non-profit organisations, do they live up to their hype? Do they really do the good they set out or at least advertise they do or do they get lost in their size?

I love your blog.

My question: Why did you want to work for Oxfam? Has it been worth it?

Having done my stint in academia and in the field with UN agencies, World Banker (wankers), and NGOs, I had enough of the hubris, inflated egos and self-righteousness of the humanitarian/development industry. I feel sick when I recall the corruption and bureaucratic jungle. It took me about 10 years to figure out that the system is designed to failed! So I packed my bags and found some real people who walk the talk. I didn't just want a job; I wanted to live my purpose. So we are this bunch of marvelous misfits who are 2000% committed to creating a happy (just, equitable, ecological) world. We made so many sacrifices. We left high paying jobs, invested all our money and time, sold our possessions, then borrowed more money to bring vision to reality. It was REAL tough but no regrets. We have a global action plan and we are doing it now.

Well, I hope you got what we are looking for! All the best, GF

Woah. That's all you had to do? I had to sell my soul to Oxfam Australia since I was like 18. All the tin rattling on the side of the streets. Only then I was employed by Oxfam Australia when I was 28, then by Oxfam Great Britain when I was 32. Count yourself lucky.
