I am currently reading about the history of Southern Africa as well as some of the region's litertature (most recently Nervous Conditions). My question is this: Is one reason for the overwhelming bile directed at Mugabe the fact that he violated that most sacred of laws, the institution of private property? I understand that his is not a gentle government. But I can't help but wonder what some people's reactions would be if Mugabe had allowed white Zimbabweans to retain their monopoly on land. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know enough about the situation in Zimbabwe. I am currently reading about the history of Southern Africa as well as some of the region’s litertature (most recently Nervous Conditions).

Is one reason for the overwhelming bile directed at Mugabe the fact that he violated that most sacred of laws, the institution of private property?
