I think that this green movement is just another excuse to impose a new order of hegemony upon the globe and its peoples.

We should be appealing to entities, deities, and natural forces who have access to land, resources, and nature that are totally off the hook of those attempting to subjugate us. I have no desire to vote for people who want to keep us in such a state of subjugation. While we compete for scarce resources in this globe, and that makes the game worth the challenge, I ain’t gonna diddly-daddle with forces that think I am some goy, prole, or other monkey boy.

Good post. On the basis of what you left on Grist about the “coolness” factor of Global Warming and about not having “No badge or hip gadget I can wear. ” I was going to suggest you get yourself a nice gimme cap that read “Ausra” or “Nanosolar” or something like that. In other words, landing a green job would be pretty cool!

That’s one of the coolest things I see about renewable energies — you can’t import the fuels. You can’t import wind, or sun, or hot rocks, or waves. But if we don’t move fast we’ll find ourselves importing wind turbines, or mirrors, or PV cells, and such more than we export them. And I don’t think that would be cool.

And hey, a number of companies are rolling out hybrid big-rigs. Izzat cool?

Anyway: I still believe this piece is one of the better pieces I’ve read on the difficulties all the treehuggers of this world find themselves in. I mean: you put it very succinctly, but indeed also true to the point. Green jobs are hard to find. As it is, for now, we’re not stewards of nature but expoiters of it. And that’s that.

This was a great read. Attempting to raise climate change awareness (not cool) I’m trying to be just as cool as you are. I do so by means of letting space alien superheros do the talking. It’s not as cool as this though. Conbgratulations! Cooler than me. Now, that’s something to be. Heh!

I do agree that most people who try go “green” do it out of recognition from others. However, I think it is not only cool but it can also save you some money in the long run as well as better your health. For example I switched all my bulbs in my house to the fluorescent (hope I spelled it right) ones. Frankly, I didn’t do it to save the environment but simply to save on energy bills and also for the fact that the bulb doesn’t get heated as much, which is what I really like. Also, when you buy organic food, it’s not only good for the environment but also good for your health as well. In short, it is not only cool to be “green” but also is good for our health and in the long run will help us save substantial money.

Maybe they can make little green ribbons to put on your shirt, or magnets for your Prius, now that would be cool. And maybe it will make the Prius cool. Then again, maybe not.

I think the green movement has to do more than be something a high income American can join to make themselves feel good.

They could do more.

Inner city youth don’t see many whales. They don’t see many birds, either, other than the ubiquitous pigeon, and the one that sprouts from ones fist in a moment of anger. Conservation is something that happens “over there”. You know, where “they” live…

The green movement isn’t even that good at getting to the middle lower class American as a matter of fact. Anything “green” is almost ALWAYS “chic” and expensive. Organic food is more expensive. Low flow toilets cost extra. That Prius, well, yes, you guessed it…

So far, only energy efficient light bulbs have finally gotten barely cheap enough to really consider changing out all your old incandescents. Three bucks might be a bit much, but it’s not too out of reach for most of us.

Too much yuppie, and too much of Operah’s silver tiffany bubble blower to REALLY impact America’s attitude. I DON’T need a vision wall. My brain does that. I DON’T need a life coach. My brain does that too. At least I hope it does. What I need is reality, not just feel-goodie glow-pillow self-hugging fluff.

And no, if you ask me what a glow-pillow is, I have absolutely no idea whatsoeverthehell a glow pillow is. Not a clue. It just sounded good. So I just threw it in there.

To me, it made just as much sense of some of these “greenies” do. They really need make a greater effort to reach the common man and woman in a way that affects daily lives. It is these people that will make or break the future of the Green movement.
