I think everyone strives for that personal Nirvana that is never reached. I'm pretty happy, though, even if I'm not making a ton of money. I'm probably as close as I can come to that goal, given my imperfections and temperment.

I will probably never achieve life in a world where fairness and a good turn recieve likewise, but I try. I remember when Katrina blew onshore, and I was enraged at the response. Amongst the apologists, there was one comment that hit home.

"Don't just sit there and blame someone, go DO something about it!"

That I did. I used my skills to assemble datasets for use in the followup to that disaster. It felt good to not only be able to voice my opinion, but to feel that I helped contribute in a small way to the recovery.

At least I'm doing a job I love, and can stay home to take care of my wife and grandson. I try to make my life at least a caricature of self-consistancy. All one can do is try. The more people that do, the closer the real will be to what we want it to be.

I wrote something a while ago about crime in South Africa entitled, "Become the change you want to see" - Ghandi. I believe that we all have the power to make change happen, it has to come from within and in our own context. It's pointless complaining if you are not activley a part of the change.
Yes, our lives are very rushed and we take little or no time to just be, I think if each of us put a spam filter on our lives, we could dedicate more time to the things that are meaningful to us... one step at a time. Declutter, simplify. Thanks for this, it's very much in line with what I'm doing, thinking and writing...
