Firstly I am signed up to the Telephone Preference Service which ought to exclude me from these calls, but doesn’t, so i also have Caller ID so I can see who is calling. These calls usually have number withheld, so I don’t answer (people who want to contact me will leave a message on voicemail). If I should pick up a call, I say nothing, I lay the handset down and let them run up a bill on their own expense.

We also get unsolicited mail through our letterbox. I save it all until someone sends me unsolicited mail with a pre-paid reply, then I pack it all in and send the whole lot back to them (without my address) and let them pay excess charges.
