That was hysterical and I relate, but from a different perspective. I don't have kids, but my sister has a son who I claim as my own when he does something cute. My sister banned Barney and any form of guns in her house. She thought Barney was creepy and cult-like. My sister was militant about keeping even images about Barney and anything and everything which might look like a gun out of the house.

One day, I came over for coffee and my adorable 18 month old nephew was sitting in his high chair eating breakfast. My sister, in a rare moment of weakness had bought long johns (donuts) for breakfast.

My nephew held the donut, pointed it at me and said "peawww, pewwww!" There was no question that he had made his own toy gun. To this day, even after my sister's comprehensive investigation there is no evidence that my nephew had ever seen anything remotely looking like a gun before that moment. My sister walked around sighing a lot and ultimately admitted that maybe she had been too idealistic and was suppressing nature.

She gave up after that. Barney invaded their home and so did water pistols and later cap guns and super soakers. Now he is a paintball nut.

As for crushes, my first was also David Cassidy, awesome hair! I later "matured" into my Peter Frampton phase.

In college I was just plain nuts. My list included dead guys like Jonathan Swift and Voltaire (who died of syphilis -- I never said I wanted to "do him"). I wasn't totally nuts because David Gilmore of Pink Floyd, Bono and Sting were still going strong.

These days, in middle age there is apparently a new rule. My husband and I have "The List." He tells me that all married couples have "The List" so It must be okay. You probably have one too, but "The List" includes anyone you want to "do" should you have the opportunity. The rule is that anyone on "The List" must be unattainable.

My list includes Robert DeNiro, Johnny Depp and Ed Harris. I have had to limit my husband's list to about 30 people since it had gotten out of control and he would have eventually met someone on the list at some point. He is constantly revising his list, usually in response to a television show or a movie. The top of his list has always been Tina Turner. He was on a business trip in Las Vegas and called me from a club where he said the singer in the band looked just like Tina Turner. A discussion about the rules of "The List" ensued and he returned home to his frumpy old wife and he lived through it.

Both of us have added on person to our Lists recently. Barack Obama is definitely on mine and Michelle Obama has been placed on my husband's List just below Tina Turner. We joked about it, but both admitted that the one thing that made them most attractive to us was the quality that made them the most inaccessible. Barack and Michelle adore each other. Their relationship may not be as twisted as ours is, but it is as loving and long lasting.

What a wonderful example of an American family.
